Valley Forge Road Bridge to be closed for nine months
during replacement project.

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — (Feb. 24, 2009) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike announced that, beginning Monday, March 2 at 9 a.m., the Valley Forge Road Bridge (Route 252) will be closed to traffic for approximately eight months between Adams Drive and Yellow Springs Road in Tredyffrin
Township, Chester County.

During the reconstruction of the Valley Forge Road Bridge, Route 252 through traffic will be detoured along Route 202, Route 422, and Route 23 (Port Kennedy Road). Local traffic traveling north on Route 252 will continue to have access to the Cradle of Liberty Council Scout Resource Center and the rear entrance to the Valley Forge Service Plaza parking area.

The detour will be in effect until the bridge replacement project is completed in November.

Starting March 9 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., motorists traveling eastbound and westbound on the Turnpike should be prepared for slow-moving traffic and nighttime lane closures while crews place temporary concrete barrier to create a work zone under the bridge, which is located 1.6 miles west of the Valley Forge Interchange (Exit #326).

There will also be occasions during demolition and reconstruction of the bridge when the 14-mile section of Turnpike between the Valley Forge and Downingtown will be closed in both directions with off-Pike detours. The first closure is scheduled for March 22 (weather permitting) between midnight and 6 a.m.

The $4.8 million Valley Forge Road Bridge (Route 252) project is the first of two bridges targeted for replacement as part of the total reconstruction and six-lane widening of the Turnpike from milepost 320 (Future Route 29 Slip Ramps) to milepost 326 (Valley Forge Interchange).
