TURNPIKE SETS COMMUNITY DAY ON SOON-TO-OPEN MON/FAYETTE EXPRESSWAY SECTION IN FAYETTE COUNTY

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) will host a "Community Day on the Expressway" event on Saturday, October 11 to offer the general public a preview of Phase 1 of the Mon/Fayette Expressway Uniontown-to-Brownsville Area Project prior to its scheduled opening later in the Fall.

In partnership with the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, Steps to a Healthier Fayette County, the National Road Heritage Corridor and its construction manager TCMS-Maguire, the PTC invites folks to "Step Stride Glide Ride" the new roadway before it opens to traffic.

Community Day will be held on the new mainline in the vicinity of the Searights Crossroads interchange in Menallen Township, Fayette County. Citizens are welcome to stroll or bicycle the new roadway or take a bus tour. The event also will include food vendors, informational booths and a children's area featuring Airheads balloon art and the Rainbow Express trackless train.

Steps to a Healthier Fayette County will sponsor a Family Fun Walk beginning at 9 am. Visit the www.stepstoahealthierfayettecounty.org Web site to pre-register and for more information.

A "Modes of Transportation" parade will kick off the rest of the day's events at 10 am. The Chris Higbee Project will perform at 1 pm. Other music will be provided by DJ Mark Rafail. Activities will close at 5 pm.

More information about Community Day festivities may be obtained by visiting the www.paturnpike.com/MonFaySB. Food and other vendors and parade participants are being sought. If interested, contact Muriel Nuttall (724-437-4571) at the Fayette Chamber of Commerce.
