TRAFFIC ADVISORY

TURNPIKE WESTBOUND BETWEEN NEW STANTON AND IRWIN TO CLOSE FOR SIX HOURS OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY MORNING FOR OVERHEAD BRIDGE WORK

An eight-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) between the New Stanton and Irwin interchanges in Westmoreland County will be closed to westbound traffic for about six hours, from midnight Saturday until 6 am Sunday, Aug. 17, for overhead bridge work.

Crews will be setting concrete beams for a new span to carry Glenn Fox Road over the Turnpike at Milepost 74.2 in New Stanton Borough.

Westbound traffic will be forced off of the Turnpike at New Stanton (Exit #75) and diverted around the construction site via Turnpike 66 North to U.S. Route 30 West to re-entry of the Turnpike westbound at Irwin. The detour is among the shortest and simplest between any entry and exit points on the Pennsylvania Turnpike system.

The Turnpike's eastbound lanes will remain open and eastbound traffic will not be affected.

Replacement of the overpass carrying Glenn Fox Road over the Turnpike is part of a $6.4 million project contracted to J.F. Shea Construction of Mount Pleasant. Glenn Fox Road has been closed at the site since March 3. The new bridge will be open by Thanksgiving.
