Pa. Turnpike Announces Availability of Noise Impact Analysis Report

Document oulines noise impact and mitigation for the widening of the
toll road west of Valley Forge.

HARRISBURG, PA (08/30/2007; 1627)(readMedia)-- Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) officials today announced the availability of the Noise Impact Analysis Report for the Total Reconstruction and Widening Project, Milepost 320 (Future Rt. 29 Slip Ramps) to Milepost 326 (Valley Forge Interchange).

This report describes the methodology and presents the findings of the traffic noise study conducted for the full-depth reconstruction project from Milepost 320 to 326 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Chester and Montgomery counties.

The purpose of the traffic noise study is (1) to determine if project-related noise impacts will occur and (2) to determine whether noise abatement for affected areas in the form of noise barriers or other mitigation measures would be warranted, feasible and reasonable based upon Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) criteria as utilized by the PTC.

“I am glad that the Turnpike Commission is encouraging public participation through their outreach initiative,” stated Senator Andrew Dinniman, “I am also glad and thankful that the Turnpike Commission is making a real effort to provide project information and encourage community participation through the release of this report.”

The full-depth reconstruction project will convert the existing four-lane roadway with a 10-foot median to a six-lane facility with three travel lanes east and westbound, a 26-foot median and 12-foot shoulders. This project also includes the replacement of two overhead bridges, seven mainline bridges, lengthening of culverts and the construction of storm-water management facilities and other drainage improvements at various locations throughout the project limits. The final design phase of this project is targeted for completion in 2010.
