The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will hold the second of two Open House meetings to show engineering design plans for the total reconstruction and six-lane widening of 10.5 miles of I-476, the Northeastern Extension, from the Mid-County Interchange (exit 20) to the Lansdale Interchange (exit 31) in Montgomery County. The first Open House meeting held March 29th at St. Helena’s School in Blue Bell drew more than 300 residents.

The next Open House Plans Display meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Pennbrook Middle School, 1201 E. Walnut St., North Wales.

A presentation to provide attendees with an overview of the project will be conducted throughout the evening. Informational project displays and mapping will be available for public review, and representatives from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and their consultant project team will be on hand to provide additional detail and answer questions.

From south to north, the boundary of the Northeastern Extension total reconstruction and six-lane widening project traverses five Townships in Montgomery County: Plymouth, Whitpain, Worcester, Upper Gwynedd, and Towamencin. Unprecedented growth in the suburban Philadelphia region has contributed to severe and growing traffic congestion on the Turnpike and surrounding highways in this area. Originally opened to motorists in 1957, this 10.5 mile stretch of roadway bears one of the highest traffic volumes of any four-lane section of the Turnpike, carrying 67,000 vehicles per day.
