The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will close permanently as of Monday, February 26 a section of Old Center Avenue in New Stanton Borough, Westmoreland County.
The section of Old Center Avenue that is closing is between Westinghouse Drive and Arona Road, where Old Center Avenue crosses under the Turnpike.
PennDOT will be constructing a new bridge to carry a realigned Center Avenue over the Turnpike to a new four-way intersection with Arona Road and North Center Avenue.
The new Center Avenue (State Route 3111) is expected to open by Thanksgiving 2007.
Traffic on the north side of the Turnpike will be detoured around the closure area via Arona Road, North Center Avenue, Shrader Hollow Road, Pa. Route 66 South and Interstate 70 West (to the New Stanton Exit). The detour is reversed for traffic on the south side of the Turnpike.
