BABCOCK BOULEVARD TO CLOSE THURSDAY WHERE IT CROSSES OVER TURNPIKE (INTERSTATE 76)

in Pine Township, Allegheny County

Babcock Boulevard (State Route 4031) will close as of daybreak Thursday where it crosses over the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Pine Township, Allegheny County and will remain closed through August 2007 for a bridge replacement project.
    
The formal detour around the construction site will utilize Pa. Route 910, Pa. Route 8 and Warrendale-Bakerstown Road (SR 4068, part of the Red Belt).
    
North of the Turnpike, traffic will be directed east on Warrendale-Bakerstown Road to Route 8 South to Route 910 West. On the south side of I-76, traffic will be detoured onto Route 910 East to Route 8 North and then back to Babcock Boulevard from Warrendale-Bakerstown Road West.
    
Replacement of the overhead bridge carrying Babcock Boulevard over the Turnpike is contracted to Beech Construction, Inc. of Carnegie at $3,566,000. The new bridge is expected to open before Labor Day 2007.

Average daily traffic flow over the Turnpike via Babcock Boulevard is 5,723 vehicles.
