 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EASY E-ZPASS SIGNUPS AVAILABLE THIS WEEK AT WARRENDALE MAINLINE PLAZA

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is offering easy E-ZPass enrollment this week for westbound customers passing through the Warrendale mainline fare collection facility at Milepost 31 in Allegheny County.

Turnpike staffers are stationed at Warrendale from 7 am to 6 pm today through Friday, October 14 to register drivers who want to experience the convenience of electronic fare collection.

Motorists who want to sign up are directed to the far right fare collection lane (Lane #17) to turn in their fare ticket and pay by traditional means the toll for the trip just taken. They are then directed into the parking lot on the west side of the toll plaza’s offices.

Marketing staff will greet drivers while they sit in their vehicles and help them fill out E-ZPass application forms on the spot. Registrants leave with an active transponder programmed for immediate use on Pennsylvania’s and other toll road systems wherever the purple E-ZPass logo is displayed.

“This is a great opportunity for our customers in the Pittsburgh region who have been thinking about getting an E-ZPass tag,” said Turnpike CEO Joe Brimmeier. “We’re reaching out to make registration simple and quick. Once you use it, you’ll kick yourself for not signing up sooner.”

Registration requires a minimum investment of $38, typically made from a standard credit card with a provision for automatic replenishment when the customer’s prepaid tolls account drops below $10. Excluding a $3 annual service charge, a new registrant has $35 in prepaid tolls to use at designated locations on the Pennsylvania Turnpike system and on toll roads in New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Illinois.

Drivers with transponders can move through entry and exit lanes without stopping and, at Pennsylvania Turnpike fare collection locations such as Warrendale, can use E-ZPass Express lanes where transactions are recorded at highway speed.

Accounting between toll road agencies in the growing E-ZPass consortium is seamless and all subscribers have free access to their E-ZPass accounts via the Internet to print receipts. All toll transactions are saved online for 120 days. Prepaid tolls do not expire.

E-ZPass customers also can move their transponder between as many as three vehicles.
