Turnpike Will Unveil Mon/Fayette Project Office With Media Event And Day-Long Open House

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will host an open house from 9 am to 8 pm Wednesday, June 15 at a former pizzeria in Duquesne that has been remodeled to serve as a public office and information center for the Mon/Fayette Expressway project in Allegheny County.

PTC Chief Executive Officer Joe Brimmeier will lead a press conference inside the building at 10 am as part of the open house. He will be joined by Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, Duquesne Mayor Phil Krivacek, Allegheny County Councilman C.L. Jabbour and other dignitaries .

“Opening our Mon/Fayette Project Office is further evidence of the Commission’s commitment to an extensive public outreach program during the final design and right-of-way acquisition phases of this critical project,” said Brimmeier. “Our goal is to design with care and build with skill a model urban expressway that will set new standards for sensitivity and functionality.”

The office is located at 1026 Duquesne Boulevard (Pa. Route 837), on the east side of Route 837 just southeast of Kennywood Park. Regular office hours will be 8 am to 5 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 11 am to 9 pm on Thursdays. The telephone number is 412-469-9371.

A mix of Turnpike public affairs and right-of-way experts and employees of McCormick Taylor, a consulting firm that helped advance the 24-mile Pa. Route 51-to-Interstate 376 Mon/Fayette Project through preliminary engineering and environmental clearance, will staff the office.

The building provides some 2,530 square feet of office space and includes a large conference room, a small conference room, and a large open area with tables for map layouts and two computer workstations for the general public. There are 44 on-site parking spaces.

Anyone interested in the project will be able to obtain various informational materials, review detailed mapping and, as necessary, meet with engineers and technicians involved in final design work. The facility also will serve as a site for briefings and special purpose meetings involving small or large groups.

Final design and right-of-way activities are expected to run through 2009.
