TRAVEL ADVISORY

PA TURNPIKE ANNOUNCES A FIVE-HOUR ROAD CLOSURE BETWEEN VALLEY FORGE AND DOWNINGTOWN DURING DEMOLITION OF PennDOT'S ROUTE 113 BRIDGE

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Turnpike advises motorists that on Saturday, December 18 and Sunday, December 19, demolition of PennDOT’s Route 113 bridge that crosses over the Turnpike will take place. Demolition of the existing structure, located in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, is part of PennDOT’s $8.2 million Route 113 widening project

While making preliminary preparations to demolish the bridge, there will be single right lane closures on the Turnpike both eastbound and westbound in the vicinity of milepost 312 at the Downingtown Interchange on Saturday, December 18 from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. and during post-demolition activities between 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 19.

Actual demolition of the structure will take place after midnight. Therefore, PLAN X (closing of the roadway) will be enforced from 12 a.m. (Midnight) to 5 a.m. between the Valley Forge (exit #326) and Downingtown (exit #312) Interchanges. To ensure the safety of Turnpike customers, motorist traveling through this area must exit the Turnpike while demolition occurs. Everyone exiting at the Valley Forge and Downingtown Interchanges will be offered detour direction cards with the following information:

WESTBOUND TRAFFIC EXITING AT THE VALLEY FORGE INTERCHANGE should take Route 202-south to Route 30-west, then to Route 100-north and re-enter the Turnpike system westbound-only, at the Downingtown Interchange. Motorists can also exit to Route 202-north and enter I-76-west (Schuylkill Expressway) to the Valley Forge Interchange.

EASTBOUND TRAFFIC EXITING AT THE DOWNINGTOWN INTERCHANGE should take Route 100 south, to Route 30-east to Route 202-north and re-enter the Turnpike system eastbound only, at the Valley Forge Interchange.

Both the PA Turnpike and PennDot will display variable message signs along the Turnpike as well as in the areas approaching the Valley Forge and Downingtown Interchanges so motorists will have the option of choosing another route during these hours of demolition. We apologize for any inconvenience to Turnpike customers. As always, motorists are urged to slow down and use extra caution when approaching areas of construction – increased penalties can occur in active construction zones.
