TRAFFIC ADVISORY

“ROLLING” ROADBLOCKS SET FOR U.S. ROUTE 22 NEAR FUTURE FINDLAY CONNECTOR TIE-IN

Motorists using U.S. Route 22 in Robinson Township, Washington County where the Findlay Connector’s interchange with Route 22 is being built will be subjected to periodic “pacings” over the next two months when blasting operations are conducted.

Rolling roadblocks will be conducted as necessary during off-peak travel periods on weekdays between Monday, November 1 and Friday, December 31, 2004. No more than two pacings will be required on any given weekday.

The stretch of Route 22 where pacings will be enforced is between the McDonald and Bavington exits. Delays should be brief. A detour is not required.

The Findlay Connector, a six-mile toll road extending south from the Pa. Route 60 Expressway at Pittsburgh International Airport, is expected to open for traffic in Summer 2006. It is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s proposed Southern Beltway, which would eventually extend south and, primarily, east to Interstate 79 at the Washington-Allegheny County and to the Mon/Fayette Expressway (Turnpike 43) near Finleyville.

The upcoming blasting is part of Construction Section 54C, contracted to Smith & Johnson Construction Company of Columbus, Ohio at $45.9 million.
