TRAFFIC ADVISORY

TURNPIKE WESTBOUND WILL CLOSE FOR 4.5 HOURS THIS WEEKEND BETWEEN BEDFORD AND SOMERSET

Westbound travel on the Interstate 76/I-70 mainline between the Bedford (Exit 146) and Somerset (Exit 110) interchanges will be prohibited between 12:30 and 5 am Sunday, Aug. 29.

Alternative route information for westbound motorists forced to exit at Bedford will be available at the Bedford interchange.

The closure of all westbound lanes is necessary so that crews can remove steel beams from the old overhead ramp bridge at the Somerset interchange. The work is part of the ongoing total reconstruction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike mainline between Milepost 109 and Milepost 122.

Eastbound traffic on the Turnpike will be reduced to one lane just west of the Somerset interchange for the same 4.5-hour period and will be routed back to the mainline through the Somerset interchange plaza. The restriction for eastbound traffic may cause delays depending on traffic volumes.

Message boards have been posted to alert motorists about the pending westbound closure and eastbound restrictions. The Turnpike’s Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) frequencies also are broadcasting information about the restrictions.

Schedules are subject to change in case of inclement weather or other circumstances where work must be stopped for safety reasons.
