TRAFFIC ADVISORY

1.1 MILES OF ROUTE 22 WESTBOUND WILL SHRINK TO ONE LANE NEAR FUTURE FINDLAY CONNECTOR TIE -IN UNTIL MARCH 2005

A 1.1-mile-stretch of U.S. Route 22 westbound coming from Allegheny County into Washington County will be reduced to one lane for a period of about eight months, effective Monday morning, July 26, relative to ongoing construction of the Findlay Connector.

Temporary concrete barriers will be in place to separate work areas from the westbound travel lane that will remain open. The lane to be closed is the right westbound lane. It is anticipated that Route 22 West will be reopened to two lanes sometime in March 2005.

The work requiring the lane closure is part of Construction Section 54C, contracted to Smith & Johnson Construction Company of Columbus , Ohio at $45.9 million. Construction Section 54C includes replacing the bridge carrying Candor Road (State Route 4009) over Route 22, relocating a section of Old Steubenville Pike and building the Findlay Connector’s interchange with Route 22.

The Findlay Connector, a six-mile toll road extending south from the Pa. Route 60 Expressway at Pittsburgh International Airport , will tie in to Route 22 between the existing Champion and Bavington interchanges. It will open for traffic in Summer 2006.
