FILLING OF MINE VOIDS WILL REQUIRE SINGLE-LANE PATTERN ON U.S. ROUTE 30 BETWEEN IMPERIAL AND CLINTON

Motorists on U.S. Route 30 in Findlay Township , Allegheny County likely will encounter a single-lane pattern between mid-morning and mid-afternoon, starting Monday, March 29 and continuing for approximately two weeks, so that crews can perform drilling and grouting to solidify mine voids.

The area of disturbance, approximately two miles north of Imperial and one mile south of Clinton , measures about 700 feet in length. Lane closures will occur between 9 am and 3 pm , except on weekends. Flaggers will control traffic flow.

Work adjacent to the roadway, either on the shoulders or beyond, will be performed between 8 am and 4 pm but will not require traffic restrictions.

The drilling and grouting work is related to construction of the six-mile Findlay Connector, a limited-access toll road that will extend south from the Pa. Route 60 Expressway at Pittsburgh International Airport to U.S. Route 22 in Robinson Township , Washington County . One of two interchanges between the end points will be with Route 30 between Imperial and Clinton .

Part of the proposed 32-mile Southern Beltway that eventually will link with Interstate 79 and the Mon/Fayette Expressway, the Findlay Connector is expected to open in Summer 2006.

Mashuda Corporation is the Turnpike Commission's general contractor for construction of the middle third of the Findlay Connector, which includes the interchange with Route 30. Howard Concrete is Mashuda's subcontractor for the drilling and grouting work.

Motorists are reminded to be alert and slow down as they approach and traverse the work zone.
