PLANS DISPLAYS SET FOR MON/FAYETTE PROJECT THAT WILL LINK UNIONTOWN AND THE BROWNSVILLE AREA

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will hold open house displays Wednesday and Thursday, January 14 and 15, to show the latest design plans for the 15-mile Mon/Fayette Expressway Project between Uniontown and Brownsville .

Displays will be held from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, January 14 at Menallen Elementary School on U.S. Route 40 and from 3 to 8 pm Thursday, January 15 at Brownsville High School .

Final design work for the project has advanced to the point where land and structures needed for the expressway's right-of-way can be identified with reasonable certainty. While the open houses are primarily for owners of such properties, who have been notified of the displays in individual mailings, anyone interested in viewing the latest plans on large-scale maps is welcome to attend at their convenience between the aforementioned times.

Turnpike staff, project designers, right-of-way specialists and relocation officers will be available to answer questions.

The Turnpike Commission began its right-of-way acquisition process for the project a year ago and is continuing to focus on properties that must be purchased in their entirety. In the spring, right-of-way acquisition efforts will be expanded to include properties needed in portion.

The Uniontown-to-Brownsville Area Mon/Fayette Expressway Project is expected to move to construction within two years. It will link the U.S. Route 119 Uniontown Bypass with the Turnpike 43 California Toll Road via Pa. Route 88 on the Washington County side of the Monongahela River .

All properties in Fayette County that must be purchased for the project are in Luzerne, Redstone, Menallen, North Union and South Union townships. All properties in Washington County that will be required for right-of-way are in Centerville Borough.
