Urgent Travel Advisory

TURNPIKE TRAVELERS AT CRANBERRY WILL FACE SINGLE LANES AND POSSIBLE STOPPAGES DURING EVENING AND OVERNIGHT HOURS NEXT WEEK

Motorists traversing the Cranberry area on Interstate 76 will face single-lane traffic patterns and possible stoppages during evening and overnight hours next week as crews begin to dismantle the bridge that carried vehicles using the eastbound off-ramp and westbound on-ramp over the Turnpike mainline.

The work is part of the Cranberry Connector Project, which has created direct movements between Interstates 76 and 79 for the first time.

Eastbound and westbound traffic on the Turnpike will be restricted to one lane between the hours of 7 pm and 6 am the following morning starting Monday night, Nov. 17. Restrictions will be lifted during the day but will be reinstated after the late afternoon/early evening period of high volumes.

Motorists can expect restrictions each night and overnight through 6 am Friday, Nov. 21, weather permitting. Depending on progress, restrictions also may be in place between 7 pm Friday, Nov. 21 and 6 am Saturday, Nov. 22. During the evening and overnight periods of restrictions, traffic will be slowed and paced through the deconstruction area periodically and may be stopped on occasion. Stoppages will be as brief as possible and should not exceed 15 minutes in duration.

Primarily, the demolition work will affect traffic on the Turnpike. However, motorists entering the Turnpike at Cranberry to go east also will be affected because the eastbound on-ramp brings vehicles onto I-76 just west of the deconstruction area.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they move through the area and to be alert for signage noting new configurations.

More information about the project is available online at www.cranberry connector.com
