TRAVEL ADVISORY

OVERHEAD SIGN WORK FOR NEW MAINLINE TOLL PLAZA
AT WARRENDALE MAY REQUIRE BRIEF STOPPAGES
ON EACH OF FIVE DAYS, STARTING SATURDAY

Erection of overhead signs that will serve customers approaching the Turnpike’s new mainline toll plaza at Warrendale (Milepost 31 on Interstate 76 near the Allegheny/Butler County line) is scheduled to begin Saturday, May 17 and continue Monday through Thursday of next week.

Officials are hopeful that “rolling” traffic paces will be sufficient to keep work areas clear. However, full stoppages of Turnpike traffic may be necessary in some situations. Full stoppages would last approximately 15 minutes.

Two paces or full stoppages are planned for each of the five days of overhead sign work. Optimally, they would occur between 10 am and 2 pm. Schedules are subject to change, especially if weather conditions are poor.

The new facility at Milepost 31 will become the western end of the Turnpike’s traditional fare ticket system when it opens at approximately 7 am Sunday, June 1.

The $22.7 million Warrendale job at the site of the former Butler Service Plaza is part of a larger Western Toll Improvement Project that includes construction of a direct connection between Interstate 76 and Interstate 79 at the Cranberry interchange.

PENNDOT’s Cranberry Connector project is targeted for completion in May 2004.
