 TRAFFIC ADVISORY

SINGLE LANES, INTERMITTENT TRAFFIC STOPPAGES
ON TAP FOR INTERSTATE 76 NEAR THE OHIO LINE

Turnpike motorists near the Ohio line will encounter single-lane patterns and intermittent traffic stoppages this week so that crews can erect support structure for permanent electronic signs to be installed east and west of the Gateway toll plaza at Milepost 1.4.

Starting at 7 am Wednesday, March 26, westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from the Gateway plaza to the Ohio border. This pattern will be in effect for several days.

Effective at 7 am Thursday, March 27, eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between the Ohio Turnpike’s Eastgate toll plaza and the Gateway facility. This restriction is to be lifted late Thursday afternoon.

There will be four traffic stoppages on Thursday lasting no more than 15 minutes. Two will affect westbound traffic and two will affect eastbound traffic. Stoppages will begin no earlier than 9 am and should be completed by 3 pm.

Similar traffic restrictions are tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 7, in the same area, for more work relating to the new signing. Details about those restrictions will be released next week.

All traffic advisories are posted on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s Web site at www.paturnpike.com. Click on Turnpike News Releases.

Ultimately, the Pennsylvania Turnpike will have eight new overhead signs in the area – four serving westbound traffic approaching the Gateway plaza from the east and four serving eastbound traffic coming into Pennsylvania from Ohio.

Two already are in place. Installation of the remaining six should conclude before Memorial Day 2003.
