TRAVEL ADVISORY

Lane Restrictions Begin on I-70 for Turnpike Bridge Project

HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is advising travelers, that beginning Tuesday, December 3, 2002, lane restrictions and periodic detours will be implemented for approximately 2 ½ weeks on I-70 westbound and I-70 eastbound, and beginning December 9, 2002 on South Breezewood Road (SR 2035) for the purpose of bridge demolition operations.

The roads extend under the Pennsylvania Turnpike and intersect with U.S. 30 at Breezewood in Bedford County.  The work is part of a project to replace the Turnpike bridges at milepost 162.1 that carry the Turnpike over I-70 and South Breezewood Road.

The lane restrictions and detours will be implemented only on Monday nights through Thursday nights between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.  Only one of those roads will be detoured at any one time.   On South Breezewood Road, some intermittent traffic stoppages of 15 minutes or less during the daytime are anticipated for the week of December 9.

Travelers are urged to use caution and remain alert for stopped or slow moving traffic when approaching this area.
