Westbound Turnpike Limited to Single Lane Today
as Crews Perform Emergency Repairs Near Somerset
Contractor expects to lift
the lane restriction by 7 a.m. tomorrow.
HARRISBURG,
PA. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has announced that a
westbound single-lane pattern before the Somerset Interchange (#10/110) in
Somerset County will be in place until approximately 7 a.m. Thursday.
Motorists should be aware of the likelihood of delays due to the heavy
traffic — especially from noon to 6 p.m. today. Westbound motorists
approaching the Allegheny Tunnel (milepost 123) should stay alert for
slow-moving or stopped traffic.
The single-lane pattern — that is less than a half-mile long —
starts at milepost 117 (about 5 miles past the Allegheny Tunnel and 7
miles prior to the Somerset Interchange) and ends at milepost 116.
Eastbound traffic is still open to two lanes in this area.
During this single-lane closure, crews are repairing a large
pothole that developed in the total-reconstruction work zone this morning
around 4 a.m.
If it becomes necessary to divert traffic off the Turnpike due to an
accident or excessive backup in the work area, cars will be taken off at
the Bedford Interchange (#11/146) and trucks will be taken off at the
Breezewood Interchange (#12/161). Collectors at these interchanges will
issue a reroute card that instructs exiting motorists how to get back onto
the Turnpike. Motorists wishing to avoid the area may voluntarily elect to
use this detour.
For up-to-date information, the
Turnpike advises approaching motorists to tune car radios to 1640AM or
1610AM when alerted by variable message boards. In addition, real-time
traffic conditions are posted on the Turnpike website, www.paturnpike.com. Project-specific information is
available by clicking on the “construction/expansion” button and
selecting “Somerset Reconstruction.” Four real-time traffic cams can
