TRAVEL ADVISORY: HARRISBURG, PA. The Pennsylvania Turnpike today announced that sections of the roadway near the Allegheny Tunnel and the Somerset Interchange will again be limited to a single lane as follows: ·
EASTBOUND TURNPIKE
between milepost 120-122 beginning at 11
p.m. Sunday March 10 through 8
a.m. on Tuesday March 12. · WESTBOUND TURNPIKE between milepost 114-122 beginning at 11 p.m. Sunday March 10 through 8 a.m. on Friday March 15. Because this single-lane pattern stretches through the Allegheny Tunnel, motorists should be aware of the possibility of lengthy delays. During these single-lane closures, construction crews will place temporary concrete barrier in preparation for the total reconstruction of the Turnpike between milepost 109-122 in Somerset County. The $94 million project involves a complete rebuild of the roadway. Motorists approaching Somerset on these days should be aware of the
potential for slow-moving or stopped traffic that may occur in the event of
an accident or breakdown in the single-lane pattern. For up-to-date information, the
Turnpike advises approaching motorists to tune car radios to 1640AM or
1610AM when so alerted by variable message signs. In addition, real-time
traffic conditions are posted on the Turnpike website, www.paturnpike.com.
Project-specific information is available by clicking on the
“construction/expansion” button and then selecting “Somerset
Reconstruction.” Four real-time traffic cams can be viewed under “Visual
Traffic Report.” In addition, a toll-free project information hotline is available at 1-866-822-6215. |
