TRAVEL ADVISORY:
Single-Lane Turnpike Conditions Near Somerset
to
Resume Late Friday Night to Early Sunday Morning

Further single-lane patterns will be in effect next Monday-Friday in the area.

HARRISBURG, PA.  The Pennsylvania Turnpike today announced that sections of the roadway between the Allegheny Tunnel and the Somerset Interchange will again be limited to a single lane beginning 11 p.m. Friday March 1 through 9 a.m. Sunday March 3.

The lane limitations — each expected to be roughly 3-4 miles long — will be in place for both eastbound and westbound traffic between milepost 108-122.

During these single-lane closures, construction crews will continue to remove existing pavement markings and paint new markings in preparation for the placement of temporary concrete barrier.

To allow for the actual positioning of the concrete barrier, additional single-lane patterns along this stretch of Turnpike will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 4 and run continuously through 8 a.m. on Friday March 8. During this period, the left (passing) lane of both the eastbound and westbound Turnpike will remain closed.

Motorists approaching Somerset on these days should be aware of the potential for slow-moving or stopped traffic that may occur in the event of an accident or breakdown in the single-lane pattern.

For up-to-date information, the Turnpike advises approaching motorists to tune car radios to 1640AM or 1610AM when so alerted by variable message signs. In addition, real-time traffic conditions are posted on the Turnpike website, www.paturnpike.com. Project-specific information is available by clicking on the “construction/expansion” button and then selecting “Somerset Reconstruction.”
