TRAVEL ADVISORY:
Butler Service Plaza Closes to Make Way for Toll Plaza

HARRISBURG, PA.  The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission reminds westbound motorists that all services at the Butler Service Plaza, milepost 31, will permanently close tonight at midnight. (Fuel service at Butler was shut down on Feb. 15.)

As a result, the New Stanton Service Plaza (milepost 77) will become the last on-Turnpike facility before the Ohio border. Motorists seeking services will need to exit the system or wait for the first Ohio Turnpike plaza located roughly 6 miles across the border.

The Butler Service Plaza, opened in 1951, is being razed to make way for construction of a 13-lane mainline toll plaza at milepost 31 in Marshall and Pine townships, Allegheny County. The new facility, called Warrendale Toll Plaza, will help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the region.

Four lanes of traffic will be kept open on the Turnpike during construction of the Warrendale Toll Plaza, which is scheduled to open in May 2003.
