Contract Awarded for Construction of Maintenance
Facilities The
Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission today awarded Dick Corporation of
Pittsburgh a $9,326,402 contract to construct highway maintenance facilities
on the Mon/Fayette Expressway. These
will be the first maintenance facilities built by the Turnpike Commission
specifically for the growing Mon/Fayette Expressway system. Most
of the work specified in the contract will occur in Jefferson Hills Borough,
Allegheny County, along the northbound lanes of the 17-mile Mon/Fayette
Expressway Project from Interstate 70 north to Pa. Route 51 that will open
in its entirety in April 2002. The
Jefferson Hills site, off Ridge Road, is between Ganley Road to the north
and Castor Road to the south. It will include a maintenance building, a
vehicle storage building, a salt dome 100 feet in diameter with conveyor, a
mixing building, a fuel dispensing island with canopy and a stand-by
generator building. Other
construction will occur in Fallowfield Township, Washington County.
Facilities there will include a salt dome 72 feet in diameter, a mixing
building, a storage building and a communications building. Dick Corporation, which is headquartered in Large near the Mon/Fayette Expressway’s interchange with Route 51, was the lowest of three bidders for the general construction contract. Bids were opened October 10. The deadline for completion of the work is September 30, 2002. |
