URGENT TRAVEL ADVISORY:
Pennsylvania Turnpike Remains Open
Additional state police and other personnel called in to keep major artery flowing.

Harrisburg, PA (Sept. 11, 2001) – In the wake of the atrocious terrorist attacks on the northeastern United States, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has called in additional police, maintenance and fare-collection employees to ensure security and customer safety as well as to keep traffic moving freely along.

All Turnpike maintenance and construction work that may have affected traffic has been shut down.

“With the chaos in New York and Washington, D.C., and with air transit at a standstill, we realize the urgency of keeping traffic moving safely across Pennsylvania,” said Captain David Points, Pennsylvania State Police Troop T.

For additional security, extra state police and Turnpike maintenance crews are patrolling the roadway, tollbooths, service plazas and other Turnpike facilities.

The Turnpike’s fare-collection staff has been augmented to handle the likelihood of increased traffic volumes.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution while traveling today.
