TRAFFIC ADVISORY:
PA Route 136 to be Restricted to Alternating Single Lanes Next Week
Near Ringgold High School for Mon/Fayette Expressway Work

East-west traffic on Pa. Route 136 in Carroll Township, Washington County will be restricted to alternating single lanes Monday, June 18 through Friday, June 22 for improvements associated with construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway’s interchange with Route 136.

Flaggers will control traffic flow on Route 136 between Carroll Township Road 854 (Hazelkirk Road) and State Route 1067 (Crackerjack Road). Restrictions will be in effect around the clock for the five-day period.

The Turnpike Commission is reconstructing a stretch of Route 136 approximately 4,000 feet long in the vicinity of dual bridges that have been built to carry the new expressway over Route 136. The dual bridges are in between the entry and exit ramps being built for the expressway’s interchange with Route 136.

Reconstruction work on Route 136 includes utility relocations, widening and new pavement.

Construction of the interchange and improvements to Route 136 are part of some $44.6 million worth of expressway work contracted to Mashuda Corporation of Cranberry Township, Butler County.

The interchange with Route 136 is one of five entry and exit points for the 17-mile Mon/Fayette Expressway Project extending north from Interstate 70 to Pa. Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough, Allegheny County.

Four miles at the south end of the project, from I-70 north to Coyle Curtin Road (a connector to Pa. Route 88 just south of Mon City), opened on May 11, 2001. The remaining 13 miles will open early next year.
