PA TURNPIKE/INTERSTATE 95 INTERCHANGE PROJECT Philadelphia, (PA) – The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, PENNDOT and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a joint Public Hearing to give interested citizens an opportunity to review and provide comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Pennsylvania Turnpike/I-95 Interchange Project. The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Harry S. Truman High. School, Green Lane and Mill Creek Road in Levittown, PA. As part of the scheduled activities, Project Team representatives will be available in the school's cafeteria to review and clarify the DEIS findings. People may also review the entire DEIS in the school's library. For individuals interested in providing spoken comments in a public setting, there will be two formal hearing sessions conducted in the school's auditorium, in the afternoon between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm and in the evening from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Anyone may pre-register to speak during these sessions by calling the Project Office at 215-244-4444. Throughout the day, the public will also have the option of submitting written or spoken comments in a private setting. "Our engineers and planners will be on hand to help people fully understand the project's environmental and social impacts," stated Jeffrey Davis, project manager for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. "Throughout the environmental study process, some of the public have expressed concerns about potential impacts of the project. Over the years, the project team has worked diligently with elected officials, community advisory committees, government agencies, and the general public to minimize these impacts as much as possible. This work is reflected in the preferred alternative identified in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)." The DEIS, which is a comprehensive summary of all the project's studies, documents the proposed interchange’s design alternatives and their potential environmental and social impacts. To give people an opportunity to review the DEIS, copies are available at various township buildings, libraries, and other public locations. In addition, an executive summary can be downloaded from the project website at www.paturnpike.com/i95. Written comments may also be mailed to the following address through July 2, 2001: Jeffrey Davis, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, PA Turnpike/I-95 Interchange Project Office, 3220 Tillman Drive, Suite 215, Bensalem, PA 19020-2083. The main objectives for the Pennsylvania Turnpike/I-95 Interchange Project are to connect two interstates, to reduce local roadway congestion in lower Bucks County, and to complete the missing link to make I-95 continuous through the Mid-Atlantic Region. Making this connection requires building a direct high-speed Pennsylvania Turnpike/I-95 interchange, a new Turnpike mainline toll plaza, widening the Turnpike from four to six lanes, and an additional parallel bridge over the Delaware River. |
