Payne Hill Road will not be Reopened
at its Junction with Route 51 in Jefferson Hills

Ongoing construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway’s interchange with Pa. Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough, Allegheny County will preclude the reopening of Payne Hill Road (State Route 2030) at its intersection with Pa. Route 51.

The intersection with Route 51 is the western terminus of Payne Hill Road. Ultimately, the western end of Payne Hill Road will be relocated to a stop-sign intersection with a new connector road (Jefferson Boulevard) that will link Route 51 and the northern terminus of the 17-mile Mon/Fayette Expressway Project extending north from Interstate 70.

Access to Route 51 from Payne Hill Road (via the Jefferson Boulevard connector) is expected to open in Summer 2001.

Payne Hill Road has been closed at Route 51 since July 24. Initially, construction engineers planned to reopen Payne Hill at that location before winter but have since decided it will be safer and more practical to keep the intersection closed.

The posted detour for motorists who typically use Payne Hill Road to access Route 51 remains Pa. Route 885 to Lewis Run Road (SR 2032).
