TRAVEL ADVISORY: Intermittent traffic stoppages, primarily during overnight hours and lasting no more than 30 minutes, will continue into next week at two Pennsylvania Turnpike sites in Somerset County where new overhead bridges are being built. After concluding no later than 6 am Friday, stoppages for work at Milepost 117 in Stonycreek Township will resume Saturday night (no earlier than 6 pm) and may continue into late morning (but not past 10 am) on Sunday, Oct. 1. This is expected to be the final period of overnight and morning stoppages for the new span at Milepost 117, which carries SR 1003 over the Interstate 76/I-70 mainline. Planned stoppages Monday night/Tuesday morning and Tuesday night/Wednesday morning did not occur because of inclement weather. The other overhead bridge site where steel erection is requiring intermittent stoppages of all eastbound and westbound traffic is at Milepost 112 in Somerset Borough, where PA Route 31 crosses over the Turnpike. Weather permitting, the time frames during which stoppages will occur there are 10 pm Monday, Oct. 2 until 6 am Tuesday, Oct. 3; 10 pm Tuesday, Oct. 3 until 10 am Wednesday, Oct. 4; and 10 pm Wednesday, Oct. 4 until 6 am Thursday, Oct. 5. SR 1003 and Pa. Route 31 have been closed at the bridge replacement sites since April 10, 2000. Both roads are scheduled to reopen by November 17, 2000. IA Construction of Concordville, PA is the general contractor for both projects. |
