TRAVEL ADVISORY:
Intermittent Traffic Stoppages Scheduled During Overnight Hours
Next Week for Bridge Work Between Somerset and Bedford

Intermittent traffic stoppages lasting no more than 30 minutes will occur between 10 PM and 6 AM starting the evening of Monday, Sept. 25 and continuing until daybreak Friday, Sept. 29 for overhead bridge work at Milepost 117 on the Interstate 76/I-70 mainline.

The construction site is in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, approximately seven miles east of the Somerset interchange (#10), where a new bridge is being built to carry State Route 1003 over the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

All eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed during stoppages, which will allow crews to erect steel girders for the new structure.

The bridge replacement project is contracted to IA Construction of Concordville, PA in the amount of $4.8 million.

SR 1003 has been closed at the construction site since April 10, 2000. The Turnpike Commission intends to reopen SR 1003 over the new bridge by November 17, 2000.

Periodic lane restrictions on SR 1003 likely will precede completion of the project in Spring 2001.
