Starting Monday, August 21 and continuing well into fall, traffic will be stopped on Pa. Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough, Allegheny County for blasting operations associated with construction of a Mon/Fayette Expressway interchange. Traffic stoppages will occur no more than twice a day during off-peak, daylight hours Monday through Friday in the area of Payne Hill Road and Three Rivers Bank. Each stoppage will last no longer than 15 minutes. Construction of the expressway interchange with Route 51 is contracted to Swank Associated Companies, Inc. of New Kensington in the amount of $21.8 million. The interchange is at the northern end of the 17-mile Mon/Fayette Expressway Project extending north from Interstate 70 in Fallowfield Township, Washington County and will serve as the northern terminus of the Mon/Fayette Expressway system until the Route 51-to-Interstate 376 "Pittsburgh leg" is built. The I-70-to-Route 51 Project is targeted for completion in late 2001. |
