TRAVEL ADVISORY:
PA TURNPIKE DETOURS TRAFFIC ON THE
NORTHEASTERN EXTENSION (I-476)

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Turnpike is advising motorists that on Thursday, June 8 between 12:40 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 9 between 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11 between 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Turnpike will be closed to traffic between the Wyoming Valley Interchange (Exit #37) and the Clarks Summit Interchange (Exit #39) due to the 18th Annual Armed Forces Air Show in the Scranton area. The closure is a safeguard against aircraft that will be flying over the roadway during the air show performances.

NORTHBOUND MOTORISTS are advised to exit the Turnpike at the Wyoming Valley Interchange onto Interstate 81-North. SOUTHBOUND MOTORISTS will not be able to enter the Turnpike at the Clark Summit Interchange. Instead, southbound traffic will be directed onto Interstate 81-South. Southbound motorists can then enter the Turnpike at the Wyoming Valley Interchange. MOTORISTS VISITING THE AIR SHOW SHOULD TAKE THE AVOCA EXIT OFF OF INTERSTATE 81.

Variable message signs will be posted along the Turnpike and on Interstate 81, reminding motorists of the detour.

Pennsylvania State Police Troop T advises motorists that from Thursday, June 8 through Sunday, June 11, all disabled vehicles found on the Turnpike between the Wyoming Valley and the Clarks Summit Interchanges will be immediately towed off the roadway.

Additional Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike maintenance crews will be on duty throughout the event to aid motorists. Approximately 40,000-50,000 people per day visit the air show.
