Turnpike Motorists Urged to Remain
Alert When Travelling Near Carlisle this Weekend

More than 100,000 automobile enthusiasts are expected to converge on the Carlisle Fairgrounds for the Spring Carlisle Swap Meet, Corral and Show April 27-30. As a result, the Pennsylvania Turnpike is asking customers who plan travels in the Carlisle area to keep alert for congestion around the Carlisle Interchange #16.

The Turnpike expects heavier-than-normal traffic volumes exiting at the Carlisle Interchange, and car-show traffic waiting to exit may potentially backup onto the Turnpike’s eastbound and westbound travel lanes. Volumes are expected to be heaviest on Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon.

Eastbound and westbound Turnpike travelers not exiting at Interchange 16 should remain in the left lane as they approach and pass by the Carlisle area. Those wishing to exit at Carlisle are asked to remain in the right lane as they near the exit.

At the Carlisle toll plaza, exiting motorists bound for the car show and Route 11 South should use the tollbooths on the right; those bound for Route 11 North to I-81 are asked to utilize the tollbooths at the left side of the plaza.

Eastbound Turnpike motorists headed for I-81 North towards Wilkes-Barre/Scranton can proceed to Harrisburg East Interchange #19, then follow I-283 North and I-83 North to I-81 as an alternate route to avoid the congestion at Interchange 16.

To avoid congestion on Route 11 South, southbound I-81 motorist headed for the car show should use Exit 18, turn right onto PA 114 West, left onto PA 944 West (Wertzville Road) and then follow PA 34 South (Carlisle Springs Road) to the Fairgrounds.

Motorists travelling near Carlisle can tune to the Turnpike’s Highway Advisory Radio System at 1640AM for car-show traffic condition updates.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike thanks customers for their patience while travelling through Carlisle this weekend.

Motorists Are Urged To Stay Alert And Be Aware
Of Slow-Moving Traffic And Abrupt Stoppages.
