Effective at the end of the regular workday today, traffic will return to a normal lane configuration through the Turnpikes total rebuild project between Milepost 94 and Milepost 99.3 in eastern Westmoreland County. The normal configuration in this area of the Interstate 76/I-70 mainline is three lanes eastbound with a full shoulder and two lanes westbound with a full shoulder. Normal lanes will remain in effect until early Spring 2000, when the second and final stage of the total rebuild will begin. During the 1999 construction season, the Turnpike maintained two lanes eastbound and two lanes westbound while work focused on the eastbound side of the median. Next season, work will focus on the westbound side of the median. Lane Construction of Meriden, CT is the general contractor for the project at $24 million. |
