TRAFFIC ADVISORY:
PERIOD OF TRAFFIC STOPPAGES EXTENDED FOR
OVERHEAD BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT AT MILEPOST 79

Eastbound and westbound traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be stopped periodically at Milepost 79, for no longer than 15 minutes, between 9 pm Tuesday, August 24 and 7 am Wednesday, August 25 and between 9 pm Wednesday, August 25 and 7 am Thursday, August 26.

These are new hours and an extra day of stoppages compared to listings in the original Aug. 20 traffic advisory.

Intermittent stoppages are necessary so that construction crews can erect steel girders for a new overhead bridge.

The construction site is in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County, between the New Stanton (#8) and Donegal (#9) interchanges.

The bridge carries Pa. Route 819, which was closed at the construction site on March 8, 1999. It will reopen on or about November 19, 1999.

Mobile message boards east and west of the construction site will alert motorists about the stoppages. Also, a Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) station at New Stanton will provide updates during the eight-hour periods when stoppages will occur. It will broadcast at AM frequency 1640.
