Philadelphia, PA -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike is advising motorists that between Thursday, June 17 and Thursday, June 24, east and westbound traffic patterns will begin shifting from the existing Schuylkill River Bridge to the adjacent new structure. The weeklong process will begin with the shifting of eastbound lanes, followed by westbound lanes. Motorists should expect single lane patterns and periodic 15-minute stoppages while crews move median barrier to the new bridge each day from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., including the weekend. The $34.5 million project, located between the Valley Forge Interchange (Exit #24) and the Norristown Interchange (Exit #25), has been underway for over a year. Contractors have completed construction of the new Schuylkill River Bridge and will now rehabilitate the older, existing structure. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by next summer (2000). Four lanes of traffic will continued to be maintained through the project site during the day and upon the completion of the barrier relocation.
