TRAFFIC ADVISORY:
SINGLE-LANE PATTERN, DETOUR AND INTERMITTENT STOPPAGES
AFFECT WESTBOUND INTERSTATE 70 BEGINNING MONDAY, MARCH 8, 1999

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is alerting motorists that beginning Monday, March 8, 1999, weather permitting, construction will take place on Interstate 70 and State Route 3091 near the New Stanton Interchange, Exit 8, on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Westmoreland County.

The westbound lanes of I-70 will be restricted to a single lane pattern beginning Monday the 8th at 6:00 A.M., lasting until Friday, March 18, 1999. In addition to the single lane pattern, occasional traffic stoppages will occur in the construction area during this period, each lasting no longer than 15 minutes in duration. No stoppages will occur on the mainline Turnpike.

Also, motorists exiting the turnpike at New Stanton Interchange wishing to access I-70 westbound will be detoured over SR 119 North and over the free section of Turnpike 66 (the Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass). The detour will be distinctly signed and involve no toll charges for motorists. Variable message boards will be used to help direct and manage traffic.

These traffic restrictions are required for the completion of the demolition of the Turnpike’s New Stanton viaduct that runs over the westbound lanes of I-70 and SR 3091.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to take needed precautions for their travels in this area. Motorists are also urged to use caution in this and all construction areas.
