ENTRY NOTICES WILL PRECEDE FIELD WORK
FOR SOUTHERN BELTWAY PROJECT BETWEEN U.S. ROUTE 22 AND INTERSTATE

Owners of property within corridors being studied for the 12-mile Southern Beltway Project between U.S. Route 22 and Interstate 79 will soon receive legal notification that representatives of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission may be entering their land as part of the field work required for the planning process.
Efforts are underway to identify land uses and community and environmental resources within the study area. Work includes locating homes, businesses and community facilities (including churches, parks, and cemeteries), as well as streams, wetlands, historic structures and other features that warrant consideration when siting an expressway. The goal is to avoid or minimize impacts.
Approximately 240 "Notice of Intent to Enter" letters will be mailed next week to owners of property in Robinson Township, Cecil Township and Mount Pleasant Township in Washington County and North Fayette Township and South Fayette Township in Allegheny County.
A second mailing of notices will occur this fall, when the area for field work will be expanded to evaluate wildlife habitats.
Property owners who receive these notices should know this does not mean their property will have to be acquired for the expressway right-of-way, or even that it will be necessary in every instance for Turnpike representatives to enter their property.
In most cases where access to a property is required, data collection can be completed with a simple walk-through. Information obtained from the field studies will be used in the development and evaluation of prospective alignments.
