PUBLIC INVITED TO REVIEW AND COMMENT ON ANALYSIS OF
ALTERNATIVES FOR THE MON/FAYETTE EXPRESSWAY BETWEEN UNIONTOWN AND
BROWNSVILLE
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will host an open house public meeting from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, August. 19, 1998, at Menallen Elementary School near Uniontown to present and accept comment on its analysis of alternatives being considered for the Mon/Fayette Expressway between Uniontown and Brownsville.
Formal presentations will be given at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by periods for comments and questions.
Large-scale maps of the alternatives under consideration will be displayed throughout the evening in an open house discussion area where Turnpike engineers, public involvement staff and consultants will be available to field questions and comments in a less formal setting. Two alternatives, each between 13 and 14 miles long, are being studied for the project. The end points for each alternative are Centerville Borough, Washington County (at an interchange with the expressway portion of PA Route 88), and North Union Township, Fayette County (at an interchange with PA Route 51 and U.S. Route 119).
In the large "middle" of the study area, the Turnpike Commission is developing, refining and evaluating alignment options of either side of U.S. Route 40.
Input from the public, local public officials and resource agencies will be factored into the design and analysis prior to the Commission's identification of a preferred alignment. The goal is to minimize impacts on existing land uses and community and environmental resources while striking the proper balance with engineering needs and cost considerations.
Menallen Elementary School is located on the east side of U.S. Route 40 approximately 2.5 miles west of U.S. Route 119.
