INTERSTATE 70 EASTBOUND RAMP TO PA TURNPIKE TO CLOSE;
TRAFFIC DETOURED THROUGH EARLY FALL, 1998

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is alerting motorists that the ramp carrying eastbound traffic from Interstate 70 to the New Stanton Interchange, Exit 8 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in Westmoreland County will be closed for rehabilitation effective Thursday, June 4, 1998.

Traffic will be detoured approximately 1.7 miles over a small section of Turnpike 66 South (Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass) and State Route 119 South. The detour route circles traffic around the construction area to the New Stanton Interchange and does not involve a toll for motorists. The detour will be in effect through early Fall, 1998.

The detour route will be clearly marked and signed. Variable Message Signs and a Highway Advisory Radio station set at 530 AM are currently in place to update and alert motorists in the immediate area.

The ramp bridge from Interstate 70 Eastbound to the New Stanton Interchange will be re-decked and rehabilitated and the adjoining ramps repaved. New Stanton Interchange and all other ramps leading to and from the interchange will remain fully operational at all times during the rehabilitation.

This rehabilitation project is part of bridge and roadway work near the Interchange that began in April, 1998. Brayman Construction Corporation of Gibsonia, PA is the Contractor in charge of the projects. All work in this area should be complete by Fall, 1999.

Motorists are urged to use caution in this and all construction areas, and remember to give Pennsylvania Turnpike highway workers a "brake."
