CONTRACT AWARDED FOR DELAWARE
RIVER BRIDGE PROJECT
$4.7 Million to be Spent on Reconstruction and
Rehabilitation
Harrisburg, PA -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has awarded a $4.7 million contract to the Driscoll Construction Company, Inc. of Spring House, Pennsylvania to redeck and rehabilitate the Pennsylvania portion of the Delaware River Bridge. The bridge spans the Delaware River, connecting the Pennsylvania and New Jersey turnpikes.
Construction on the project is expected to get underway in mid-May and will involve the redecking of approximately one-third of Pennsylvania's portion of the bridge. This is the first phase of a three-phase project that will ultimately result in the redecking of the entire section of the bridge maintained by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. The current project will also include patching work on that portion of the roadway which will not be redecked this year. Work is expected to be completed by mid-November.
The Turnpike will maintain two traffic lanes in each direction during peak traffic hours. However, there will be periodic single lane restrictions at other times of the day as construction progresses.
