PA TURNPIKE'S ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT WINS AWARD
Harrisburg -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has been awarded a
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government
Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). It is the ninth
year in a row the Turnpike has been honored by the association.
The Certificate of Achievement is the GFOA's highest honor in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. It was awarded to the Turnpike for
the high caliber of its comprehensive Annual Financial Report to Bondholders for the
1995-96 fiscal year. Samuel A. Boova, Controller for the Turnpike, received the
association's Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for being the individual
primarily responsible for preparing the annual report.
"Once again the Turnpike has been judged by an impartial panel to have met the
highest standards of financial disclosure," said Turnpike Commission Chairman James
F. Malone, III. "This is a significant accomplishment by the finance professionals at
the Turnpike."
Blair Fishburn, the Turnpike's new Deputy Executive Director of Finance and
Administration, said the comprehensive annual financial report issued by the
Commission was judged by the GFOA to have demonstrated a "constructive spirit of
full disclosure and clearly communicated the Turnpike's financial story. Since this is
the ninth year in a row the Commission has achieved this honor, it not only
demonstrates our long-term commitment to excellence, but it annually 'raises the bar'
for us to get better each year."
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association of 12,625 government
financial professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C.
