New Stanton, PA -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is continuing to
advise motorists of a single lane traffic pattern and possible delays for the eastbound
lanes only of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Somerset (Exit 10) and Bedford
(Exit 11) interchanges.
Mileposts 121.3 through 125.6, including the Allegheny Tunnel, will be
restricted to one 12-foot lane for the rehabilitation of a mainline bridge between those
mileposts. The eastbound single lane pattern will be in effect from now through mid-
May. Turnpike officials said that on weekends, all lanes of traffic will be open.
Construction on the project began on Tuesday, April 1st.
Motorists travelling eastbound are urged to watch for variable message signs
and tune their radio to the Commission's highway advisory radio station, 1610 AM for
traffic information in the Donegal area. Information about possible delays will be
provided well in advance (approximately 30 miles) before the construction area,
allowing motorists to exit the Turnpike if they wish, either at the Donegal or Somerset
interchanges.
Significant delays are possible when travelling through this area, particularly on
Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Motorists who want to avoid possible delays
may want to consider leaving for their destination earlier in the day or taking an
alternate route.
MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO USE CAUTION IN THIS AREA AND REMEMBER TO
GIVE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE HIGHWAY WORKERS A "BRAKE".
