Harrisburg -- Donald Santostefano, Director of Physical Plant at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, Pennsylvania, has been hired as the new Facilities Manager for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He will oversee operations of the Turnpike's $365 million physical plant which includes a main administration building near Highspire, two regional offices, 22 service plazas, 20 maintenance facilities, 55 toll plazas with buildings and eight State Police stations.
Santostefano comes to the Turnpike with fifteen years of facilities management experience reflecting progressively increasing responsibilities. He has an extensive background in institutional operations, administration, architecture, engineering and construction, having worked at the Milton Hershey School; Dickinson College in Carlisle; Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island and Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut.
"Mr. Santostefano brings valuable experience and expertise in needs assessment and the development of physical facilities," said Turnpike Executive Director John T. Durbin. "His arrival at the Turnpike is timely as we are beginning the process of evaluating our existing facilities, projecting future needs and determining what steps must be taken to accommodate future growth."
A 1975 graduate of Fairfield University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Santostefano went on to receive a Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA), formerly the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). He currently resides in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
