BROWN TO HEAD NEW PA TURNPIKE INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission concluded a nationwide
search today by naming Robert L. Brown of Sparks, Maryland to the
newly-created post of Deputy Executive Director for Information
Systems.
Brown, formerly a worldwide manager for strategic planning and
systems development at the Black and Decker Corporation
headquartered in Towson, Maryland, will be responsible for
developing the Turnpike Commission's new Department of Information
Services. The new department consolidates under one Deputy
Executive Director information systems which had previously been
scattered throughout the agency.
"One of the key recommendations in the recent study of
Turnpike Commission management conducted by Deloitte & Touche was
that we bring our information systems together under the management
of one Deputy Executive Director," said James F. Malone, III,
Chairman of the Turnpike Commission. "Bob Brown has a proven track
record as an exceptional manager with a diversified background in
the field of information services."
Brown developed and managed an engineering and manufacturing
services support group within the Corporate Information Systems
organization at Black and Decker. He has also served as Manager
for Management Information Systems in the Aero and Naval Systems
Division of the Martin Marietta Corporation and as a Manager for
Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Services for the TRW
Corporation's Energy Products Group.
Brown was selected to head the Pennsylvania Turnpike
Commission's new Information Systems Department after a nationwide
search which was conducted by Wolf Advisory, LTD. of Lancaster,
Pennsylvania.
"I'm looking forward to taking the experience I have gathered
working for three major corporations and applying it to the special
needs of one of America's foremost transportation systems," Brown
said. "Not only are we going to bring the Turnpike's internal
information systems into the 21st Century, but we are also going to
have a positive impact on our customers through the development and
implementation of Smart Card and E-Z Pass electronic toll
collection systems."
Brown is the second Deputy Executive Director to be hired from
the corporate community following a nationwide talent search.
Roger McCauley, formerly with the Quaker State Corporation, was
hired earlier this year as the Turnpike's Executive Director of
Finance and Administration. The Turnpike is currently in the midst
of a complete reorganization of that department.
Brown, is married and lives with his wife, Barbara Jean, in
Sparks, Maryland. They plan to relocate to central Pennsylvania in
the near future. His wife is an educator in the South Western
School District in Hanover, Pennsylvania. They have four grown
children.
